How many times have we heard that timing is everything.. although there might be a slight need for divine intervention or to have chance on ur side, when it comes down to it, timing is not everything without a good eye for balance and a sturdy mental filter.
equation:
good balance + good filter = great timing
Like everything concerning people, it's all about emotions. having balanced judgement is aka good timing. things that go wrong b/c of bad timing are normally called "bad luck" for the same emotional reasons. the balance refers to the scale between you and external factors. when you are well-balanced (situationally/emotionally) all other imbalances work to your advantage. the side with balance has the control, if internally - it provides clarity.
Having a trustworthy mental filter is useful in weeding out the persuasive factors that will make you fail. if you are great at filtering distractions, it'll be a lot easier at maintaining a beneficial balance. the hard part is identifying the distractions. we have all seen movies where the bad guy holds the good guy at gun point towards the end and gets distracted by something trivial last minute and dies. now if the villain can actually have a good mental filter for once and be emotionally balanced so they can spare us the ego speech, the result would be: pull trigger - good guy dies.
Great timing may really be just a great decision, the result of balanced observation coupled with a great distraction filter - works only in theory of course.
