Hybrid Offshore Model: Plausible But Not Persuasive

Lately, there's been a lot of drama that surfaced at work from the introduction of a hybrid offshore model. You begin with an aboriginal group of on-site workers that's been with the company for 10+ years that are usually semi-adequate out of routine/habit and you introduce a band of eager, motivated, yet less subjectively experienced group of workers from a third world country with English as a second language and you expect it to work? Not without a fight, some collateral damage, and a bottle Motrin as starters you don't.

Now I've seen the offshore model work at some companies and it's usually when an entire department is bundled and sold off overseas with a minimalistic on-site pyramid management model. Rarely can the system function effectively when you have 2 equal camps obviously sharing a conflict of interest and expect them to work willingly and happily side by side when their main motivation is to fight for their survival and stake in earning a living. It's one thing when people notice this is not the most amicable nor prolific work environment to be in and deal with it via earnest hard work, cooperation, and good sportsmanship. However, the reality is: fat chance.

The source of the problem is that the majority of this country's workforce is composed of very mediocre minds and talent. Now, this may be the case in other countries as well, but the defining factor lies in the motivation and drive of these average producers to work hard in order to remain indispensable and vital in a capitalistic environment. When you are from a land of abundance and affluence, it creates rather contented and under-challenged individuals. Byproducts of contentment usually includes complacency and laziness. So when you are not the best in your field and all of a sudden there comes competition, what does one do?? Pack up the bags and call it fair game? Unfortunately, NO. The average person normally resorts to hoarding and sabateur-esque behavior to ensure the competitor fails miserably in order to prove their own self worth and significance. This is a double whammy FAIL.

We can preach fairness and advocate generosity and promote synergetic bullshit but the concern for the collective whole will be nonexistent if the purpose is to get rid of half of the equation. Moral of the story? Darwin is always right. Survival of the fittest always prevails. Learn to be fit or exit gracefully. Thanks.
